Bald eagle family faces crisis. 300,000 plants added to natural areas.

When last summer's heat wave hit, Eric Johnson went to check on a bald eagle family he had been watching in southeast Portland. He found that the heat had driven the eaglet out of its nest high in tree, even though it couldn't fly. Over the following weeks, Johnson photographed the eaglet and its parents as they tried to survive the crisis.

A key part of the story is the restoration work done by dozens of organizations and governments in the region to create strong, interconnected habitats that can support big animals like eagles.
